UP PCS Mains result declared; here is the number of candidates selected for the interview—find out the next steps..
Big and welcome news has emerged for thousands of youths preparing to become administrative officers in Uttar Pradesh. The Uttar Pradesh Public Service Commission (UPPSC) has officially released the results of the Combined State/Upper Subordinate Services (PCS) Main Examination 2025. With this announcement, the long wait for candidates who appeared in the main examination has come to an end. According to the results released by the Commission, 2,297 candidates have been declared successful and shortlisted for the interview stage to fill a total of 812 vacancies. Now, the focus of these successful candidates has shifted to the final and most crucial stage of the selection process.
**Exam Held in March**
The UPPSC conducted the PCS Main Examination 2025 from March 29, 2026, to April 1, 2026, at various centers in the Prayagraj and Lucknow districts. A total of 10,284 candidates, having cleared the preliminary examination, appeared for this main examination. The Commission prepared the list of successful candidates based on their performance and marks obtained in the main examination.
Regarding the specifics of the recruitment process, there are 814 vacancies across 28 different types of posts. Selection for two vacancies of a specific post type is to be based solely on written examination marks; therefore, the result for this post will be declared alongside the final selection results. For the remaining 812 vacancies across 27 post types—where selection depends on both the written examination and the interview—the Commission has found 2,297 candidates eligible for the interview round.
**Legal Stipulation Attached to the Result**
According to an official release by UPPSC Secretary Girjesh Kumar Tyagi, these examination results are subject to the final verdict in Writ Petition No. 4253 of 2026 (Archit Shivam Mishra vs. State of Uttar Pradesh & Others) pending before the Allahabad High Court. Additionally, the results of female candidates from outside Uttar Pradesh have been made subject to the final verdict of the High Court regarding Special Appeal No. 475 (D)/2019, filed by the Uttar Pradesh government.
The Commission has displayed the Main Examination results on the notice board of its Prayagraj office. They have also been made available on the official website, uppsc.up.nic.in. Candidates who appeared for the exam can immediately check their results using their roll numbers. A separate, detailed notification will be issued regarding the submission of post preferences and interview dates for successful candidates.
**Merit List to be Released After Interviews**
In a significant directive, the Commission has clarified that detailed information regarding the marks obtained by candidates in the Main Examination and the cut-off marks will only be released after the final selection results are declared. Therefore, candidates are requested not to submit applications under the Right to Information (RTI) Act, 2005, seeking information about their scores or cut-off marks at this stage.
For candidates whose roll numbers appear on the list—prepared based on their outstanding performance in the Main Examination—the path to becoming administrative officers in Uttar Pradesh has now become more promising. However, the Commission has clarified that clearing the Main Examination and reaching the interview stage does not guarantee final selection. A total of 2,297 candidates have been called for interviews against 812 vacancies, implying stiff competition among candidates to secure a spot in the final selection list.
