There is significant news for students awaiting admission to MBBS and BDS courses in Uttar Pradesh. The Directorate General of Medical Education and Training (DGME) has been directed to re-conduct the first round of online counseling for UP NEET UG 2026. Consequently, the seat allotment result issued on September 7 has been cancelled. This decision follows an order passed by the Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court on September 16. **Impact of Cancelling the Counseling**
This decision will affect a large number of students. Approximately 1.7 lakh candidates from Uttar Pradesh qualified in NEET UG 2026 and are eligible for MBBS and BDS seats under the state quota. Of these, around 34,000 candidates had registered for the first round of counseling.
**What is the New Schedule?**
According to the new schedule released by the DGME, the online choice-filling and locking process commenced on September 18 at 5:00 PM. Candidates can select their preferred colleges and courses until 5:00 PM on September 21. Subsequently, the seat allotment results will be declared on September 22.
Candidates who are allotted a seat will be able to download their allotment letters and complete the admission process between September 23 and September 26.
**No Change to the Initial Merit List**
Importantly, no changes have been made to the previously released merit list. The counseling will proceed based on that same merit list; however, seat allotment will be granted only to those candidates who complete the choice-filling and locking process again within the stipulated timeframe.
This revised schedule applies to MBBS and BDS state quota seats across all government and private medical and dental colleges, institutes, and medical universities in Uttar Pradesh.
