UPSSSB has invited applications for the recruitment of 7994 Lekhpals in the Revenue Department. According to the notification issued, out of the total 7994 posts, 4165 posts are for general category candidates. 792 posts are reserved for EWS candidates, 1441 for OBC candidates, 1446 for SC candidates, and 150 for ST candidates. This is what has sparked the controversy.
In fact, the Constitution provides a 27 percent reservation for the OBC category. Based on this, a total of 2158 posts should be reserved for OBC candidates in the UP Lekhpal recruitment. However, UPSSSB has reserved only 1441 posts for OBCs in the notification. This has heated up the political atmosphere in the state. SP chief Akhilesh Yadav has called it a violation of the rights of OBCs, and Panchayati Raj Minister Om Prakash Rajbhar has also raised this issue.
Reservation discrepancies to be resolved after CM Yogi's displeasure
Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath has expressed his displeasure over the discrepancies related to reservation in the UP Lekhpal recruitment 2025. Following this, efforts have begun to change the post details in the UP Lekhpal recruitment. In this regard, the Revenue Council has been directed to send a proposal related to the revision of post details to the UPSSSC soon.
Revised proposal to be sent within a week
In this connection, Kanchan Verma, Commissioner and Secretary of the Revenue Council, has sent a letter to the UPSSSB. In the letter, she stated that the requisition for the sanctioned Lekhpal posts, along with the roster-wise vacancies at the divisional level, had been provided to them. Based on this, the Revenue Council had provided the vacancy information to the UPSSSB. She further stated in the letter that new information has been received regarding the category-wise calculation of vacant Lekhpal posts at the district level.
Meanwhile, the UP government has asked the Revenue Council to provide the revised proposal for post details to the UPSSSB within a week. It is expected that the UPSSSB will issue a new notification with the revised post details before the application process begins.
