UP Board New Rules: There is a major update for UP Board High School students. Now, the 30 marks allocated for Science and Home Science subjects will not be based on school-level internal assessments but on practical exams conducted by the Board itself. Consequently, students' marks will depend directly on their performance in these exams. Let us explore the impact on students, the previous marking system, and how many students will appear for the Science and Home Science practical exams this year.

What were the previous rules?
Until now, practicals and internal assessments for all High School subjects were conducted at the school level. A five-point grading system was used, and students were awarded grades based on it; these grades were subsequently recorded on their marksheets. However, this practice will no longer apply. The system has been discontinued for Science and Home Science subjects. For these two subjects, students must now take a separate practical exam worth 30 marks. Meanwhile, the existing system of internal assessment will continue unchanged for other subjects.

How will this affect students?
With the implementation of the new system, students must perform well in the practical exams to secure good marks. Previously, marks were based on school-level assessments; now, examiners appointed by the Board will evaluate the students' capabilities and performance. Educators believe this will bring greater transparency to the assessment process and reduce the scope for arbitrary marking at the school level.

Approximately 20,000 students to take the exam.
In the district, around 20,000 students appearing for the High School examination will be required to take the practical exams for Science and Home Science. The Board will appoint separate examiners for this purpose.

Practical Exam to Carry 30 Marks
District Inspector of Schools (DIOS) Vinod Kumar Mishra has announced that internal assessment will no longer be conducted for Science and Home Science at the high school level. Instead, a practical examination worth 30 marks will be held for both subjects. All school principals have been informed about this new system.
