UGC's big action on ragging! Show cause notices have been issued to IIT, IIM, and AIIMS.
UGC has now started taking strict action against institutions that do not take the issue of ragging seriously. The list includes names of big institutes...

UGC is now adopting a strict stance. Now the country's renowned institutions are facing the strictness of the University Grants Commission. Ignoring the issue of ragging may prove costly for many universities. UGC has sent show cause notices to 89 higher education institutions across the country and has put them in the defaulter list. These are the institutions that have neither taken anti-ragging affidavits from the students nor submitted the compliance affidavit within the stipulated time.
IIT and IIM also included in the list
The surprising names in the defaulter list are of top institutions like IIT and IIM. These include. IIT Kharagpur, IIT Bombay, IIT Hyderabad and IIT Palakkad, IIM Mumbai, IIM Rohtak and IIM Tiruchirappalli. Apart from this, AIIMS Raebareli, National Institute of Design (NID) and other major institutes are also in this list.
Ignoring UGC rules
According to UGC Secretary Dr. Manish Joshi, reminders were sent to the institutions several times by the commission. Anti-ragging helpline and monitoring agency also alerted, but despite this the institutions failed to take necessary action. He said that this is not only a disregard of UGC rules, but also playing with the safety of the students.
What does the rule say?
Under the UGC Anti-Ragging Regulation 2009, it is mandatory for all higher educational institutions to take a declaration against ragging from the students and their parents at the beginning of every session. Its purpose is to provide a safe and cordial academic environment to the students.
If not followed, strict action will be taken
If these institutions do not follow the rules in the next 30 days, then UGC can take strict action against them. Strict steps like stopping their funding, cancelling recognition and ending affiliation can be taken. This can also affect their research projects and other financial assistance.
