UGC NET 2024: Higher marks required for JRF than NET - details here..

UGC NET 2024 Exam: UGC NET i.e. University Grant Commission National Eligibility Test (UGC NET 2024) was conducted on 18 June. The NET exam (NET 2024 Exam) is conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA). Every year this exam is conducted twice a year. Once in June and a second time in December. This year the June session exam was conducted on 18 June for 83 subjects at 531 centers in the country. Students doing master's degrees in any subject appear in the UGC NET exam. This exam is a qualifying exam for JRF and for Assistant Professor in various universities and colleges of the country. The full form of JRF is Junior Research Fellowship. Lakhs of candidates participate in both the sessions of UGC NET.
More marks are required for JRF.
The difference between UGC NET and JRF is from the percentile obtained in the exam. To get JRF, more marks are required as compared to NET. General category candidates need 40% marks to pass the UGC NET exam. On the other hand, JRF's first paper has to be passed. To get NET JRF, general category candidates have to score a minimum of 40% marks.
Admission in PhD
The top 10 percentile in the NET exam gets JRF. After doing JRF, the candidate gets Rs. 31000 per month for the first two years and Rs. 35000 per month from the third year onwards. During this period, the candidates also get Rs. 20,000 as a contingency fund every year. Apart from this, they can also do a PhD.
