UGC launches NATS 2.0 portal, know everything about it
UGC has launched the National Apprenticeship Training Scheme to facilitate access to apprenticeship opportunities. This scheme will also give a certificate to the students after completion of the apprenticeship.
The University Grants Commission (UGC) has issued a notification, directing higher educational institutions to register on the NATS 2.0 portal to maximize apprenticeship opportunities for their students. Students will be provided with a recognized certificate after completion of the apprenticeship. This will help bridge the skill gap by ensuring that students are job-ready and provide valuable information on placement and industry trends.
What is the duration?
The National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) is one of the flagship programs of the government to make Indian youth skilled in trade subjects. The National Apprenticeship Training Scheme (NATS) under the provisions of the Apprentices Act, 1961, amended in 1973; The NATS 2.0 portal offers a practical, hands-on on-the-job-training (OJT) based skilling opportunity to graduates, diploma students, and vocational certificate holders. The duration of the program ranges from six months to one year.
The government has launched the NATS 2.0 portal to enhance access to apprenticeship opportunities for youth, helping them bridge their skill gap. The portal will efficiently match candidates with suitable employers and serve as a one-stop solution for all apprenticeship-related activities, including candidate registration and application, job vacancy advertisement, contract creation, certification, and stipend disbursement. The applicable stipends, as per the rules, are disbursed to the apprentices through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) via the portal.
The NATS 2.0 portal will benefit Higher Educational Institutions (HEls) as it will connect students to various employers, enhance their employability through relevant skills and practical experience, streamline apprenticeship management, reduce administrative work, and boost the reputation of the institution through active industry engagement. Additionally, the stipend will be distributed through DBT.
