Students will no longer have to wait for three full years to complete their graduation. If students wish, they can complete it in two and a half years. University Grants Commission (UGC) Chairman Jagadesh Kumar gave this information in a one-day conference held recently in a college in Chennai. The UGC chairman said that the education body is considering options for students to complete their degrees faster. In this sequence, students will be allowed to complete a three-year course in two and a half years and a four-year course in three. Also, it is planned to implement it in the next academic session.

He further said 'In the coming years, capable students can complete the degree program in a shorter period. We estimate that such students can benefit from six months to one year. However, the UGC chairman also said that if students want to take more time to complete their studies, then they will also be given that. Also, they will be allowed to take breaks during their courses.

The director of IIT Madras has given this suggestion.
