A school in Maharashtra has won the 2025 World's Best School Prize Community Choice Award in the UK. According to a teacher at the school, the school was once on the verge of closure.

Zilla Parishad Prathmik Shala, Jalindernagar, a primary school in Khed taluka, Maharashtra, has been declared the winner of the 2025 World's Best School Prize Community Choice Award, to be presented in London this week in the category of best school. The award was established by UK-based T4 Education in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic to provide a platform for schools that are making a difference in the lives of students both in their classrooms and beyond.

Zilla Parishad the primary school in Jalindernagar, has been selected for this award for revolutionizing government school education by providing quality student-led learning through its subject-specific system and collaborative teaching-learning model.

In this teaching-learning model, students of different age groups study together, teach, and learn from each other. Dattatreya Ware, a teacher at this school in the tribal-dominated Maharashtra district, said he felt "extremely honored" to be selected for this prestigious honor.

"This tribal school, located in a remote area of ​​Jalindernagar, had just three students in 2022 and was on the verge of closure. In just two years, it has seen a remarkable transformation to world-class standards," Ware said. "This transformation was not only infrastructural but also academic. Out of 50 schools listed in five categories of the World's Best School Prize in public voting, ZP Primary School, Jalandharnagar was declared the winner with the highest number of votes.
