A major update has emerged for candidates aspiring to join the Uttar Pradesh Police. The UP Police Recruitment and Promotion Board has shared important information regarding the computer typing test for certain posts in the ministerial category. The board released this update through its official X (formerly Twitter) handle @upprpb, bringing relief to candidates who have been waiting for a long time.
According to the board, the computer typing test for the posts of Police Sub-Inspector (Confidential), Assistant Sub-Inspector (Clerk), and Assistant Sub-Inspector (Accounts) will be conducted in the second week of February 2026. However, the exact date, shift, and center of the examination have not yet been announced.

Recruitment for 537 Posts
A total of 537 posts will be filled under this recruitment drive. These include 112 posts for Sub-Inspector (Confidential), 311 posts for Assistant Sub-Inspector (Clerk), and 114 posts for Assistant Sub-Inspector (Accounts). The recruitment notification was issued on December 20, 2026, and the online application process also started on the same day.
The last date for filling out online forms and submitting the examination fee was January 19, 2026. A correction window was also opened from January 20 to 22, 2026, to allow candidates to make necessary corrections to their forms. The dates for the written examination and results will be announced separately by the board later.
Typing Speed will also be tested
For the Sub-Inspector – Confidential and Assistant Sub-Inspector – Clerk posts, candidates must be graduates from a recognized university. They must also possess an O Level certificate. The typing test requires a speed of 35 words per minute in English and 25 words per minute in Hindi. For the Sub-Inspector (Confidential) post, Hindi stenography at 80 words per minute is mandatory.
For the Assistant Sub-Inspector (Accounts) position, a B.Com or equivalent degree is required. In addition, an O Level certificate and a Hindi typing speed of 15 words per minute are necessary. The age limit for all positions is 21 to 28 years.
Fees and Salary Details
The application fee for General, OBC, and EWS category candidates is Rs. 500, while SC and ST category candidates have to pay Rs. 400. The fee can be paid through credit card, debit card, online net banking, and offline e-challan.
Regarding salary, the Sub-Inspector (Confidential) post falls under Level-6, with a salary range of Rs. 9,300 to Rs. 34,800, plus a grade pay of Rs. 4,200. The Assistant Sub-Inspector (Clerk and Accounts) posts fall under Level-5, with a salary range of Rs. 5,200 to Rs. 20,200 and a grade pay of Rs. 2,800. Other allowances will also be provided as per government rules.
