Teachers must take an exam to retain their jobs; understand how Yogi's announcement brought relief to lakhs of teachers..
UP TET Exam 2026: There is major news for lakhs of teachers and job aspirants in Uttar Pradesh. The UPTET 2026 exam is scheduled to be held in the state between July 2 and July 4, with approximately 20 lakh candidates participating. Just before the exam, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath held a high-level review meeting and took a historic decision keeping in mind the thousands of teachers already in service.
The Chief Minister has ordered that a separate TET exam be conducted for teachers currently teaching in schools. This decision brings immense relief to teachers who had been deeply concerned about their jobs following a Supreme Court ruling.
Why was a separate exam necessary?
The Supreme Court has made passing the TET mandatory for teachers across all schools in the country. Following this ruling, teachers in Uttar Pradesh who had been teaching for years without having passed the TET faced a threat to their employment.
In light of this issue, CM Yogi has directed the Uttar Pradesh Education Service Selection Commission to conduct a special, separate exam to verify the eligibility of currently employed teachers. The Chief Minister believes that no experienced teacher should lose their job due to limited opportunities. This decision ensures that teachers have ample time to prepare and a fair chance to pass the exam and secure their employment.
How does this decision by the Yogi government benefit teachers?
It is worth noting that over 19.94 lakh candidates—including 1.85 lakh teachers—are appearing for the UPTET exam scheduled for tomorrow. Teachers who have registered for this exam may face stiff competition, as they will be competing directly against fresh aspirants.
In contrast, teachers who opt for the separate TET exam designed specifically for in-service teachers will find the process easier. Additionally, this will provide them with the necessary time to prepare for the exam. This increases their chances of passing the exam; in this regard, the decision to hold a separate examination for teachers comes as a relief to lakhs of them.
However, the Yogi government has not yet announced the date for this separate examination for teachers.
