Sports grounds equipped with state-of-the-art facilities will be developed in government schools across the capital, Delhi. This announcement was made by Chief Minister Rekha Gupta. The Chief Minister held an important meeting with the Education Department at the Delhi Secretariat today to review departmental activities and directed officials to prepare a detailed blueprint for this ambitious scheme. Senior officials from the Chief Minister's Office were also present.
Government to Partner with Sports Academies
The Chief Minister said that to promote sports, the government will partner with various sports academies. Under this initiative, MoUs will be signed with the academies for training in cricket, boxing, taekwondo, football, swimming, and other sports. These academies will also be given permission to use the sports facilities and necessary support. According to the Chief Minister, we want children to receive systematic sports training from childhood so that they can confidently pursue their dreams.
Priority to Rural Areas
The Chief Minister informed that the Delhi Government's Education Department currently has 799 school buildings or campuses. Officials have been instructed to examine which schools can be developed with sports grounds or auditoriums. Where large grounds are available, modern sports grounds will be developed. Where space is limited, multi-purpose auditoriums or mini sports arenas can be built. The Chief Minister also stated that schools in rural areas will be given priority in this scheme to ensure equal opportunities for rural talent. The government is also considering the possibility of constructing swimming pools in selected schools to provide basic training to children in all major sports. The Chief Minister clearly stated that there will be no shortage of budget for this scheme, and it will be launched as soon as possible.
Prizes worth crores of rupees and government jobs
Chief Minister Rekha Gupta stated that promoting sports is a top priority for the Delhi Government. The government has launched attractive incentive schemes for athletes who win medals at the national and international levels. He stated that the Delhi government is providing prize money of ₹7 crore to Olympic gold medalists, ₹5 crore to silver medalists, and ₹3 crore to bronze medalists. Additionally, arrangements have been made to provide financial assistance and respectable government jobs to emerging athletes at the state and national levels.
