SSC Sliding Mechanism: The Staff Selection Commission has decided to implement a sliding mechanism for allocating vacant positions to eligible candidates across all departments. Under this new system, efforts will be made to maximize the filling of declared vacancies through "fixed" and "float" options.

According to this policy, the final result of the SSC Recruitment Exam 2026 will be prepared taking into account the vacancies left vacant due to candidates who were absent during the option selection process in the fourth phase. This will help in filling the vacant positions efficiently.

Why was the sliding system introduced?
The SSC has proposed this new system to fill as many vacant positions as possible in each cycle of the exam. This will give eligible candidates a better chance of being selected and prevent positions from remaining vacant due to absences.

How will the first allocation be made?
The first provisional allocation will be made based on the preferences submitted by the candidates. To confirm their selection, candidates will be required to visit their Regional Director (RD) office and complete identity verification through Aadhaar.

What are the fixed and float options?

Fix means that the candidate is permanently accepted for the position they have been assigned. No further upgrades are available. Float means that if a higher-ranking position becomes vacant in the future, the candidate will be considered for an upgrade. The sliding process will only occur once per exam cycle, and there will be no waiting list.

Identification of Vacant Positions from Absentee Candidates
If some candidates are absent in the fourth stage, the vacant positions will be identified. Candidates with the float option will then be assigned new positions based on merit and preference, and a revised final result will be released.

Candidates selected in the first stage will have approximately 10 days to complete Aadhaar verification and choose Fix/Float. Failure to appear within the stipulated time will result in them being considered absent, and no further appeals will be accepted. This entire system is a candidate-friendly initiative to fill as many vacancies as possible.
