SSC Changes Exam Process: SSC Implements Major Changes to Examination Procedure; Full Marks to be Awarded for Incorrect Questions
SSC Changes Exam Process: The SSC has decided to implement significant changes to its examination process to make it more transparent, fair, and reliable. This new system is set to come into effect starting in the year 2026.
SSC Changes Exam Process: Examinations conducted by the Staff Selection Commission (SSC) are of paramount importance to the millions of students preparing for government jobs. Every year, a large number of candidates appear for various SSC recruitment examinations; however, candidates have often faced disadvantages due to incorrect questions, ambiguous queries, or technical glitches during the exams. Students have long been lodging complaints regarding these issues; on several occasions, protests were staged, and the matter even reached the courts. Taking all these factors into consideration, the SSC has now decided to introduce major changes to make the examination process more transparent, fair, and trustworthy. This new framework will be implemented from 2026 onwards and is expected to provide significant relief to the candidates.
What Major Change Has the SSC Made to the Exam Process?
The SSC has announced the implementation of a new 'Objection Management System' for its computer-based examinations. Under this system, candidates will be given the opportunity to voice their concerns after the examination, allowing for the rectification of errors. Now, if a question in the exam is found to be incorrect, incomplete, or unclear, it will be removed. Most importantly, full marks allocated to that specific question will be awarded to *all* candidates. This ensures that no student suffers any disadvantage due to the presence of an erroneous question.
Why Was This Decision Taken?
This change has been implemented in response to student complaints, RTI (Right to Information) applications, and observations made by the courts. Recently, students across the country staged protests following instances of incorrect questions and technical difficulties encountered in certain examinations. This move by the SSC is being hailed as a major stride toward making the examination system more transparent and equitable. With these new regulations in place, candidates will no longer have to fear losing marks due to incorrect questions.
Opportunity to Register Objections Against the Answer Key
According to the new system, once the examination concludes, the SSC will first release a provisional (temporary) answer key. Candidates will be able to review this answer key and register objections against it. Subsequently, subject matter experts will examine these objections, after which the final answer key will be released. This process provides an opportunity to rectify any incorrect answers or questions. If a particular question has more than one correct answer, all candidates who selected any of the correct options will be awarded full marks; however, negative marking will continue to apply to candidates who provide an incorrect response.
New Rules Regarding Questions Outside the Syllabus and Language Selection
If a question outside the prescribed syllabus appears in the examination, such a question will be removed, and full marks for it will be awarded to all candidates. However, the SSC notes that such instances occur very rarely. The SSC has also clarified that candidates must take the examination in the specific language they selected while filling out the application form. Although the questions will be provided in both Hindi and English, candidates are required to provide their answers in the language they originally opted for.
