Shillong: In a major step towards governance reform, judicial efficiency, and cultural promotion, the Meghalaya Cabinet on Wednesday approved three proposals. One of these important proposals is to abolish interviews for Group D posts in state recruitment. These important decisions were taken in the Cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma.

No interviews for Group D recruitments

In a significant administrative reform, the Cabinet has approved the discontinuation of interviews for Group D posts in state recruitment processes. In line with the guidelines of the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances and Pensions, the move aims to ensure greater transparency, fairness, and merit-based selection.

Three proposals approved

These three proposals include a set of criminal justice rules under the new national criminal laws, Meghalaya Film Tourism Policy 2025, and discontinuation of interviews for Group D posts in state recruitment.

In a move towards modernisation of the criminal justice system, courts can now sentence persons convicted of minor offences to perform community service as punishment, such as assisting in hospital maintenance, arranging books in government libraries, cleaning classrooms in government schools, assisting in municipal sanitation efforts or participating in forest department programmes like tree plantation and weed removal.

The Cabinet also approved the Meghalaya Film Tourism Policy 2025, which aims to establish the state as a major filmmaking destination in the Northeast.
