All schools in Dehradun have been closed today in view of the severe heat and the threat posed by the ongoing heatwave. A holiday has been declared today for all government, private, and non-governmental schools, as well as all Anganwadi centers.

Considering the continuously rising temperatures and the prevailing heatwave conditions in the Dehradun district, the district administration has taken a major decision today. As per the orders issued by the District Magistrate, all government, non-governmental, and private schools, along with Anganwadi centers across the district, are to remain closed today. This decision by the administration has been taken with the health and safety of the children in mind.

Schools Closed in Dehradun Today

The impact of the severe heat is clearly visible in Dehradun today. People are facing significant difficulties due to the scorching sun, rising temperatures, and hot winds. Following a warning issued by the Meteorological Department, the district administration has issued an order to keep all schools closed today as a precautionary measure. This decision has brought relief to thousands of students across the district today. Parents, too, feel less anxious regarding their children’s health. The administration has clarified that this decision was taken specifically to protect children from health issues such as heatstroke and dehydration.

All Schools—Government and Private—to Remain Closed

According to the issued order, all government, non-governmental, and private schools in the Dehradun district—covering classes 1 through 12—will remain closed today. Additionally, a holiday has also been declared for all Anganwadi centers within the district today.

The Chief Education Officer and the concerned departments have been instructed to ensure strict compliance with this order. All school managements had already been asked to provide prior notification regarding this closure.

Decision Taken with Children’s Health in Mind

Severe heat tends to have the most profound impact on young children. Exposure to the scorching sun and hot winds can lead to health issues in children, such as weakness, dizziness, dehydration, and heatstroke. Keeping these risks in mind, the administration has taken the decision to keep schools closed today.

Medical professionals emphasize that it is crucial to protect children from direct sunlight during this weather. Ensuring adequate hydration and staying safely indoors are the most effective measures.

The district administration has appealed to the public to avoid venturing outdoors during the afternoon hours. Special care should be taken of children, the elderly, and those in poor health. People are advised to wear light clothing and consume plenty of water. One should step out only when absolutely necessary and ensure their head is covered when exposed to sunlight. The administration is continuously monitoring the weather situation.

Further Major Decisions May Be Taken

If temperatures continue to rise in this manner over the coming days, the administration may take further significant decisions regarding schools. Currently, an order mandating the closure of all schools for today remains in effect.
