Schools Closed: Schools in this Bihar district to remain closed until June 20; DM issues orders..
Schools Closed: Schools across the entire district, including the capital city of Patna, have been closed until June 20. The district administration took this decision to ensure the safety of children amidst the scorching heat. Patna District Magistrate Dr. Tyagarajan SM issued an order on June 14, immediately suspending the operation of classes up to Grade 5 in all schools across the district.
The order issued by the District Magistrate states, "The prevailing high temperatures in the district—particularly the intense heat during the afternoon—pose a potential risk to the health and well-being of children. I, Tyagarajan SM, District Magistrate of Patna, acting under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, hereby completely prohibit academic activities for classes up to Grade 5 in all private and government schools (including pre-schools) until June 20, 2026. Furthermore, academic activities for classes 6 to 8 are prohibited after 10:30 AM. School managements are directed to reschedule academic activities in accordance with this order."
**Timings Changed for Classes 6 to 8**
According to the administration's directive, the timings for classes 6 to 8 have also been revised. These classes may now only operate until 10:30 AM. The order explicitly notes that the rising heat and heatwave conditions could adversely affect children's health; consequently, this precautionary decision has been taken.
**Scorching Heat in Patna**
Patna is currently experiencing intense heat. The Meteorological Department forecasts that the temperature will hover around 39 degrees Celsius on June 16. Meanwhile, the maximum temperature could cross the 40-degree mark on June 17 and 18. Although the sky is expected to be partly cloudy on June 19, the temperature may still reach 38 degrees. This decision has been made in the best interest of the children, considering the rising temperatures.
