Schools Closed Latest News: Schools in several Indian states are set to close for various reasons. Due to factors including a cyclonic storm, teachers' strikes, and heavy snowfall, children will not be able to attend school in the second week of December. Meanwhile, winter vacations are also scheduled to begin in many places in the coming days. Let's find out where schools will be closed.

Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh
Heavy rains caused by Cyclone Ditwah in the southeastern coastal areas of India have severely affected normal life. In early December, schools, colleges, Anganwadi centers, and other educational institutions in Tamil Nadu were ordered to close due to heavy rains and strong winds. However, the situation is still not normal. Waterlogging on the roads due to the rains is causing problems. Therefore, parents are demanding that the government declare holidays for schools and colleges. It is believed that, considering the situation, the government may decide to close schools for the next week.

Teachers' Strike in Maharashtra
A large number of teaching and non-teaching staff are on strike in Maharashtra. This has directly impacted the academic schedule of schools. In approximately 18,000 out of the state's nearly 25,000 schools, classes for grades 9 and 10 have completely stopped. The impact is most visible in the Marathwada region, where many schools have remained closed for several days. The impact has been less significant in Mumbai, but if the disruption continues, schools in other districts may remain closed until next week.

However, the government has warned the striking employees and teachers that their one day's salary will be deducted for each day of absence. This statement has drawn a strong reaction from the unions, and representatives have said that the protest will continue until their demands are met. Schools in Kerala to remain closed on December 9 and 11
The Kerala government has declared December 9, 2025, and December 11, 2025, as public holidays due to the local body elections in 2025. This order applies to all public offices and educational institutions across the state. Additionally, commercial companies have been instructed to grant paid leave to their employees on these dates.

According to the official notification, both holidays will be observed district-wise. This arrangement has been made to ensure smooth polling and effective participation of voters in their respective areas. The government has clearly outlined the distribution of holidays across the state's 14 districts, dividing them into two groups based on the polling schedule.

UP School Winter Vacation: Schools closed from December 20 to 31

This means that schools will remain closed for the last 10 to 12 days of the year and will reopen directly in the new year.

Madhya Pradesh

The holiday schedule is almost ready in Madhya Pradesh as well. Holidays in many government and private schools may start from December 23.  Especially in the case of PM Shri schools, according to the official list, schools here will remain closed for 10 consecutive days from December 23 (Tuesday) to January 1, 2026 (Thursday).

Winter Vacation: Schools closed for three months
The cold weather has increased the difficulties of people in Jammu and Kashmir. Due to the record-breaking cold, the state education department has declared long holidays in all schools. Schools from pre-primary to class 8 will remain closed from December 1, 2025, to February 28, 2026, i.e., for three months. Schools from class 9 to 12 will remain closed from December 11, 2025, to February 28, 2026.

Delhi Schools Winter Vacation Date: When do the holidays start? Due to air pollution, schools in Delhi-NCR were temporarily operating in a hybrid mode (online and offline). Schools were later reopened, but the air quality in Delhi remains "very poor." In this situation, students and parents are eagerly awaiting the winter break.

The academic calendar for 2025-26, released by the Delhi Directorate of Education (DoE), provides a complete list of school holidays. Schools in the capital will be closed on December 25, 2025, for Christmas Day. The winter holidays will begin on January 1, 2025, and continue until January 15, 2026.
