School Timings Revised in UP and Uttarakhand Due to Heat and Heatwaves; Holidays Announced in Several States..

In several states across North India, the heat and heatwaves have reached their peak. Consequently, both the elderly and children are facing distress. In light of the escalating heat and heatwaves, several states—including Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand—have now revised their school timings. Furthermore, in view of the rising temperatures, schools have been completely shut down in cities such as Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh) and across the state of Odisha. All these measures are being implemented to ensure the safety of children and to protect them from the adverse effects of heatwaves and scorching temperatures.

**School Timings Revised in Several States, Including Noida and Lucknow (UP)**
Given the intense heat, school timings have been altered in various cities across Uttar Pradesh, including Noida, Ghaziabad, Lucknow, and Bareilly. According to an order issued by the District Magistrate, all schools will now commence at 7:30 AM and conclude at 12:30 PM. This order shall remain in effect until further notice. Typically, summer vacations in Uttar Pradesh begin on May 20th.

**Timings Revised in Uttarakhand as Well**
The impact of the heat is also being felt in the cities of Haridwar and Dehradun in Uttarakhand. Consequently, school timings in several parts of Uttarakhand have been rescheduled to run from 7:30 AM to 12:00 PM. Classes for students in grades 6 through 8 will continue until 12:30 PM. This order is valid until May 26th. Furthermore, in accordance with the orders issued by the District Magistrate of Dehradun, all government, semi-government, and private schools, as well as Anganwadi centers within the district, have been kept closed today.

**Schools Closed in Several States**
In view of the prevailing heat, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi has declared holidays for all schools across the state, effective from April 27, 2026. Although the summer vacation was originally scheduled to commence on May 6th, the state government expedited this decision in light of the intense heat conditions.

Additionally, school holidays have been declared in Chhattisgarh until June 15th. In Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh), holidays have been announced until April 30th. Furthermore, school timings have been revised in several districts across the state of Bihar. In several districts—including Patna, Gaya, and Aurangabad—classes up to the 5th grade have been rescheduled to conclude by 12:30 PM. Additionally, in Saran (Chapra), schools for students up to the 5th grade are operating only until 11:30 AM.

IMD Warning: Do Not Venture Outdoors During These Hours
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a general warning for the public. Everyone has been advised to refrain from venturing outdoors between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM.
