School Reopening Date Postponed in MP Due to Intense Heatwave; Teachers and Students to Return on This Day..
The sun is currently blazing down relentlessly in Madhya Pradesh. In several districts, mercury levels have soared past the 45-degree mark, and people are hesitant to step out of their homes. In view of this life-threatening heatwave, the Mohan Yadav government has provided significant relief to students and teachers. Consequently, all government and private schools across the state will now reopen on June 16, 2026. Furthermore, the government has extended the holidays for teachers by an additional seven days. Previously, teachers were required to report to school starting June 1; however, they have now been granted an extension until June 7, 2026. This means their vacation period has effectively been extended from May 1 to June 7.
**Why Was the Extension Necessary?**
The School Education Department explicitly stated on its Twitter (X) handle that the heatwave conditions prevailing in the state are extremely severe. Additionally, teachers have been continuously engaged in official duties, such as census work and the evaluation of board examination answer sheets. Under these circumstances, the decision to extend the holidays was taken with the well-being of the teachers in mind. However, no changes have been made to the scheduled holidays for Dussehra, Diwali, or the winter break.
**School Bells to Ring on June 16; Special Campaign to Begin**
As soon as schools reopen on June 16, the second phase of the "School Chalen Hum" (Let's Go to School) campaign will also commence. The primary objective of this campaign—which is scheduled to run until June 30—is to ensure the enrollment of every child and to bring back those students who have dropped out of their studies midway.
The government has issued strict directives to officials, emphasizing that textbooks must be placed in the hands of students the moment the new academic session begins. Instructions have been issued to ensure that the printing and distribution of textbooks are completed promptly.
