The Uttar Pradesh government has released a new public holiday calendar for the year 2026. Significantly, there has been no change in the number of holidays this year, but several festivals will benefit from continuous holidays. This will provide children with a good opportunity to travel and spend time with family while also studying.
Number of Holidays and Key Changes in 2026
There has been no increase or decrease in the total number of holidays. However, the dates of some festivals have been changed. An order issued by Principal Secretary Manish Chauhan states that the holiday for Guru Gobind Singh Jayanti, previously announced on January 5, will now be on December 27, 2025, and has been categorized as a restricted holiday. Additionally, there will be a holiday on April 1 due to the annual closing of accounts of commercial banks. Schools and offices will remain closed on this day.
Students benefit from continuous holidays.
The new calendar includes several occasions when children will benefit from continuous holidays. January 3rd is the birthday of Hazrat Ali, and January 4th is a Sunday, giving them two consecutive days off. Similarly, January 25th is a Sunday, and January 26th (Republic Day) is a Monday, resulting in two consecutive holidays. In March, Holika Dahan is on Monday, March 2nd, and Holi is on Wednesday, March 4th, while March 1st falls on Sunday.
November will also see extended holidays. Diwali falls on Sunday, November 8th, Govardhan Puja on Monday, November 9th, and Bhaiya Dooj and Chitragupta Jayanti on November 11th. This will provide school children with a respite from the stress of studies and a good opportunity to spend time with their families. Overall, the 2026 holiday calendar will prove to be quite beneficial for both students and employees.
