Big news has emerged for candidates preparing for the Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) examination. The Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) has released a new syllabus and revised exam pattern for the RAS exam 2026. This change is particularly significant because it is the first time since 2013 that the syllabus has been revised on such a large scale. The commission has modified approximately one-third of the syllabus, aiming to make both the preliminary and main examinations more analytical and practical. This will also change the direction of preparation for the candidates.

Changes in the Preliminary Exam and New Preparation Strategy
Significant changes have been made to the syllabus of the RAS preliminary examination. Previously, candidates had to study subjects like sports and yoga, but this is no longer required. The entire 20-mark section on sports and yoga has been removed from the preliminary exam. It has been replaced with the Rajasthan Examination Act 2022.

Major Changes and New Pattern in the Main Examination
The biggest change in the RAS main examination has been made in the fourth paper. Previously, this paper was limited to Hindi and English, but now it includes an essay section. The new pattern will be divided into three sections: Hindi, English, and Essay. Candidates will be required to write a detailed essay on one of six given topics.

In addition, 15 questions worth 2 marks each have been removed from the General Studies papers. These have been replaced with more analytical questions worth 5 and 10 marks, to better assess the candidates' thinking and writing abilities. In Hindi grammar, 25 questions worth 2 marks each have also been removed, making the syllabus simpler and more effective.

According to the commission, all upcoming RAS recruitments will be based on this new syllabus. Due to the absence of recruitment in 2025, a large number of vacancies are expected in 2026. The detailed syllabus is available on the commission's official website.
