Relief for MBBS Interns in Uttarakhand: Stipend Raised from ₹17,000 to ₹25,000

MBBS interns in Uttarakhand will now receive ₹25,000 per month. Previously, they were paid a stipend of ₹17,000. Consequently, following this government decision, interns will receive an additional ₹8,000 per month.

The Uttarakhand state government has approved an increase in the monthly stipend for medical college interns. MBBS interns will now receive ₹25,000 per month, up from the previous ₹17,000. This means interns will get ₹8,000 more each month. The decision to hike the stipend was taken during a state cabinet meeting chaired by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami. Students undergoing MBBS internships at the state’s five government medical colleges will benefit from this decision.

₹25,000 Per Month Now

The Uttarakhand government has raised the monthly stipend for MBBS interns from ₹17,000 to ₹25,000, marking a direct increase of ₹8,000 in their monthly payment. It is worth noting that the MBBS internship is a crucial part of a medical student’s education; during this period, students undergo clinical training in hospitals and gain practical experience in medical practice. The increased stipend is viewed as a form of financial support for them.

Benefits at These Five Government Medical Colleges

Currently, MBBS and postgraduate medical courses are being conducted at five government medical colleges in Uttarakhand. The increased stipend will apply to students interning at these institutions. These five medical colleges are located in Srinagar, Haldwani, Dehradun, Haridwar, and Almora.

Decision Made Following Students’ Demands

In Uttarakhand, MBBS interns had demanded an increase in their monthly stipend from ₹17,000 to ₹30,000. Additionally, postgraduate resident doctors had sought a monthly stipend of ₹1 lakh. Subsequently, the Cabinet approved a decision to raise the stipend for MBBS interns to ₹25,000 per month; however, no decision has been reached yet regarding postgraduate (PG) interns. The government’s decision follows representations made by medical interns, who cited the stipend rates prevalent in other states.

Decision Taken During Cabinet Meeting

Banshidhar Tiwari, the State Director General of Information, stated that the monthly honorarium for MBBS interns, previously ₹17,000, has been increased to ₹25,000. This decision was taken during the state Cabinet meeting. The Cabinet also approved a proposal related to the Sports Policy 2021. This policy includes provisions for providing “out-of-turn” employment to various state-level posts for athletes who win medals in national and international sports competitions. To implement this, approval was granted to fill 243 posts across the Sports, Youth Welfare, Home, Transport, Education, and Forest departments.
