The Bihar government has withdrawn its previous order, which restricted government employees from appearing for competitive examinations only once. The government has now rescinded this directive. This implies that government employees are now free to appear for competitive examinations any number of times.

The government had issued its previous order on April 6. Following the issuance of this order, employees expressed their displeasure. Taking the employees' resentment and protests seriously, the new government administration decided to revoke the earlier order. The Urban Development Department has since issued a formal order officially cancelling the previous directive.

The newly issued order states: "The order issued on April 6—about the permission granted to employees working under the Urban Development and Housing Department to participate in competitive examinations—is hereby withdrawn with immediate effect." Consequently, government employees can now enhance their qualifications by appearing for examinations multiple times during the course of their service.

**What was the previous order?**

The order issued on April 6 stipulated that government employees could appear for departmental or competitive examinations only once during their entire tenure of service. It even included a warning that violating these regulations could result in termination from service.

**Why was the order withdrawn?**

Employees had been protesting against this decision. Several employee unions had demanded the withdrawal of the directive. The employees argued that this order posed a significant impediment to their career growth and advancement.
