Record-breaking applications for Bihar teacher recruitment; nearly 1 million registrations for TRE-4..
A record-breaking number of applications has been received for the major teacher recruitment drive in Bihar. Approximately 1 million (10 lakh) candidates have registered for this recruitment—the highest number ever recorded for a teacher recruitment process in the state. Under the 'TRE-4' (Teacher Recruitment Examination-4) phase, 33,320 vacancies have been announced, for which 990,000 candidates have applied. This means securing a teaching position will be highly competitive, with nearly 30 candidates vying for every single seat.
A Long-Awaited Recruitment
The BPSC (Bihar Public Service Commission) teacher recruitment had been eagerly awaited for several months, with protests even taking place in Bihar before the official notification was finally released. The record number of applications highlights the immense interest among the youth for this government job. The challenge now lies in how these aspirants will compete against hundreds of thousands of others to secure one of the 33,320 available positions.
Previous Application Trends
While there have been previous teacher recruitment drives in Bihar, the number of applicants in those instances was significantly lower. For TRE-3, approximately 450,000 candidates applied, while TRE-2 saw 600,000 applicants. In the first phase (TRE-1), there were 800,000 applicants. Thus, following the initial recruitment phase, TRE-4 has now set a new record for the number of applications.
Impact of Extending the Application Deadline
The deadline for submitting applications for the Bihar teacher recruitment was extended. Originally set for October 26, 2026, it was later pushed to November 3, 2026. Following this extension, thousands more candidates registered, bringing the total figure to approximately 1 million. While the date for the examination has not yet been announced, it is expected to take place either in the last week of December or early January.
