Record 2.73 Lakh Registrations for NEET PG 2026; Candidates Advised to Beware of Rumors
A record 2,73,183 candidates have registered for the NEET PG exam this year, marking an increase of over 12.5 percent compared to last year. The exam will be conducted in a single shift on August 30.
NEET PG Exam 2026: Preparations for NEET PG 2026 have reached the final stage. A record 2,73,183 candidates have registered for the exam this time—an increase of more than 12.5 percent over the previous year. The exam will be held in a single shift on August 30 across approximately 340 cities and at more than 1,300 centers nationwide. The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has implemented several major changes to make the exam more secure, transparent, and candidate-friendly.
Exam to be Held in a Single Shift on August 30
In accordance with Supreme Court directives, the NEET PG exam will be conducted in a single shift this year to ensure a uniform evaluation process for all candidates. The exam will be computer-based, and the number of centers across the country has been increased to allow the maximum number of candidates to take the test in a city close to them.
Appeal to Beware of Rumors and Paper Leak Claims
Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare JP Nadda held a review meeting regarding exam preparations on August 1. During the meeting, all aspects concerning exam arrangements, security, technical systems, and candidate convenience were reviewed. Officials were instructed to conduct the exam in a fair, secure, transparent, and technology-driven manner. The Health Minister urged candidates not to trust any rumors or fake documents related to paper leaks. He stated that the question paper is prepared using a highly secure, encrypted, and time-bound process just before the exam begins; therefore, any claim that someone possesses the question paper in advance is completely false and misleading. Candidates are advised to rely solely on official information provided by the NBEMS and the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. They have also been asked to immediately report any suspicious activity or irregularities to the concerned authorities.
Changes Introduced This Time
Several measures have been implemented this year to make the examination process more convenient. During the application process, candidates are given the option to select three states for their examination center. Information regarding the exam city will be released on August 1, while admit cards will be available for download starting August 27. Additionally, the question paper will consist of 180 questions, with a duration of 210 minutes allotted to solve them. An Aadhaar-based verification system has been put in place for both the application process and the examination itself; iris biometric verification will also be conducted if required. Furthermore, measures such as multi-layer frisking, biometric verification, CCTV surveillance, real-time monitoring, and technical audits will be implemented at the examination centers.
