In the QS Subject Rankings 2026, Electrical Engineering achieved the highest rank—specifically, rank 36. This was followed by Mechanical Engineering (rank 44), Computer Science (rank 45), Chemical Engineering (rank 48), and Civil Engineering (rank 50).
Commenting on this achievement, Prof. Somnath Baidya Roy—Dean (Planning) and Head of the Ranking Cell at IIT Delhi—stated that IIT Delhi provides world-class yet affordable education to students, who subsequently emerge as leaders across the fields of academia, industry, business, and government. He added that while rankings may not fully capture the entirety of our activities, they undoubtedly serve as a testament to our hard work.
12 Subjects Feature in the Top 100 Rankings
According to the QS Subject Rankings 2026, major subject areas at IIT Delhi—such as Engineering & Technology, Natural Sciences, and Social Sciences & Management—have secured a prominent place within the top 100 list. Within the Engineering & Technology category, Data Science and AI have been ranked in the 51–100 band. Similarly, the Mineral and Mining category has also received a ranking within the 51–100 range. Meanwhile, in the Natural Sciences category, Environmental Sciences ranked 78th, Materials Science 64th, and Mathematics 86th.
