Pursuing a B.Com? You Can Get Financial Aid Through These Scholarships
Central and state governments run various scholarship schemes for B.Com students, providing financial assistance that covers tuition fees, maintenance allowances, and other expenses.
If you dream of pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce (B.Com) degree but are worried about how to pay the fees, this information is for you. The government offers several scholarship schemes to provide financial aid to students. Let’s look at the details...
Applications for most government scholarship schemes can be submitted via the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). Additionally, many states have developed their own scholarship portals where eligible students can apply.
Central Sector Scholarship Scheme
One of the most popular schemes for B.Com students is the "Central Sector Scholarship Scheme for College and University Students." This scheme is designed for students who have performed exceptionally well in their Class 12 board examinations.
Under this scheme, eligible students receive financial assistance of ₹12,000 per year at the undergraduate level. To apply, a student must rank within the top 80th percentile of successful candidates from their respective board in the Class 12 examination. Furthermore, the family's annual income must not exceed ₹4.5 lakh.
PM-YASASVI and Post-Matric Scholarship
The government also runs schemes like PM-YASASVI and the Post-Matric Scholarship for students belonging to socially and economically backward sections. These schemes primarily benefit students from Other Backward Classes (OBC), Economically Backward Classes (EBC), and De-notified, Nomadic, and Semi-Nomadic Tribes (DNT).
Under these schemes, students receive a maintenance allowance, reimbursement of tuition fees, and additional financial support for books. The benefit amount may vary according to the regulations of the respective state governments. Special Scholarship Schemes by State Governments
In addition to central government schemes, various state governments also run special scholarship programs for B.Com students. These schemes are available to permanent residents of the respective states.
States such as Uttar Pradesh, Maharashtra, Karnataka, Rajasthan, and Madhya Pradesh—among others—operate distinct scholarship schemes for meritorious students, female students, and those belonging to SC, ST, and OBC categories. Under many of these schemes, students receive a full waiver of tuition fees, while others provide financial assistance directly transferred to their bank accounts.
Who can apply?
Candidates applying for these scholarships must be enrolled in a B.Com program at a recognized college or university. Most schemes stipulate specific criteria regarding educational qualifications, income limits, and social category.
