Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched the Chief Minister's Short-Term Employment Program (STEP) in Maharashtra on Wednesday. Its primary objective is to teach advanced skills related to industry and employment to the state's youth. This initiative will be implemented by the state's Skills, Employment, Entrepreneurship, and Innovation Department. The target is to train 75,000 students this year and approximately 100,000 students next year.

2,506 Training Units to Be Set Up
Under this program, 2,506 training units will be established in 419 government Industrial Training Institutes (ITIs) and 141 government technical schools. Local institute management committees will oversee the courses, ensuring quality training and local participation. The objective is to empower youth and provide self-employment opportunities to rural youth and women.

What is the admission process?
Admission to this program will be completely online. Interested candidates can register at admission.dvet.gov.in.

What is the fee?

The training fee will range from ₹1,000 to ₹5,000 per month.

What are the eligibility criteria?
Approximately 25 percent of the seats are reserved for current trainees at the institute, while the remaining seats are open to external candidates. Eligible students include those pursuing ITI, as well as those pursuing 10th, 12th, diploma, and degree courses.

STEP covers modern technical topics such as additive manufacturing, drone technology, electric vehicles, solar energy, cybersecurity, the Internet of Things, artificial intelligence, green hydrogen, mobile repair, and social media influencing. Dedicated training centers will be established in Gadchiroli, Latur, Nagpur, and Amravati, tailored to the needs of local industries.

In addition, a 'Vedic Sanskar Junior Assistant' course will be launched in Nashik to prepare for the Kumbh Mela. Inauguration ceremonies were held at 600 locations across the state, with artisans, local artists, and traditional craft experts attending as chief guests.
