Planning to pursue an M.Tech? Get monthly financial aid through these government scholarships.
Central and state governments run various scholarship schemes for M.Tech students, providing financial assistance amounting to thousands of rupees every month. Let’s look at the details...
To promote technical education and provide financial support to talented students across the country, central and state governments operate several scholarship schemes. Specific schemes are available for students pursuing an M.Tech (Master of Technology) degree, offering monthly financial aid of thousands of rupees.
Amidst the rising costs of higher education, these scholarship schemes are proving to be a great help to students. Their objective is to encourage deserving students to advance in the fields of technical education, research, and innovation.
One of the most prominent schemes for M.Tech students is the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE) PG Scholarship Scheme. Under this scheme, eligible students receive a monthly scholarship of ₹12,400. This benefit is available to students who have qualified in national-level exams like GATE, GPAT, or CEED and have enrolled in a full-time postgraduate program at an AICTE-recognized institution.
Special UGC scheme for SC/ST students
The University Grants Commission (UGC) also runs a special scholarship scheme for students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC) and Scheduled Tribes (ST). Under this scheme, eligible students receive financial assistance of ₹7,800 per month. Additionally, an annual grant of ₹15,000 is provided, which can be used for study materials, research work, and other academic requirements. To avail of this scheme, students must belong to the SC or ST category and be enrolled in a regular, full-time M.Tech course at a recognised institution.
Applications can be submitted via the NSP portal.
Applications for the UGC scholarship are submitted online through the National Scholarship Portal (NSP). During the application process, students are required to submit caste certificates, documents related to academic qualifications, and details about their institution. Students are advised to complete the application process within the stipulated timeframe to avoid any inconvenience.
Benefits from State Government Schemes Also Available
In addition to the central government, several state governments are also providing financial assistance to students pursuing technical education. Various scholarship and stipend schemes for meritorious and needy students are being implemented in states such as Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, and Karnataka. In many states, students belonging to Scheduled Castes (SC), Scheduled Tribes (ST), and the Economically Weaker Section (EWS), as well as those engaged in research work, receive financial assistance ranging from ₹15,000 to ₹50,000 per month. However, the amount and eligibility criteria may vary from state to state.
