PGI Exam Cancelled: On Sunday, the recruitment examination for 'Hospital Attendant Grade 2' at the Sanjay Gandhi Postgraduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) in Lucknow—the capital of Uttar Pradesh—was marred by severe administrative negligence and mismanagement. Candidates who had traveled from afar were left outraged upon learning that the examination had been abruptly cancelled at three centres located in the Chhota Bharwara area of Gomti Nagar Extension. Having arrived at the centres on time, the candidates reacted with strong protests and slogans upon discovering that the examination would not take place.
Candidates Shocked Upon Arrival at Centres
Thousands of candidates from Uttar Pradesh and other states had arrived in Lucknow for the examination scheduled for Sunday. The examination centres included SDSN Degree College, SDSN Public School, and Juris College of Law, all situated in the Chhota Bharwara area of Gomti Nagar. When students arrived at these centres around 7:00 AM for the first shift, they were suddenly informed that the examination had been cancelled. According to initial reports, the examination could not commence on time due to technical issues and malfunctions in the biometric systems at these centres, which triggered an uproar.
Claims of Agency Error and Biometric Malfunctions
As the situation escalated, the examination cell of SGPGI issued a formal notice. The institute clarified that the examination could not be conducted at these three centres due to technical flaws and operational irregularities on the part of the agency tasked with administering the test, necessitating its postponement. However, the candidates present at the scene alleged that they had received no prior notification whatsoever. The sudden cancellation of the exam resulted in a complete waste of their time and the money spent on travel. There were also rumors among some students regarding a paper leak; however, neither the PGI administration nor any official source has confirmed this.
Dissatisfaction over the change in examination mode
Candidates were already unhappy with the entire recruitment process. Initially, SGPGI had planned to conduct the examination online, but the exam pattern was suddenly changed, and it was decided to hold it in an offline mode. This last-minute change to the examination format further fueled the students' discontent.
Lack of information added to the confusion
Upon receiving reports of the commotion, police forces from several stations—including the Gomti Nagar Extension police station—arrived at the scene and attempted to bring the situation under control. For a considerable time, the police and the examination center administrators tried to pacify the agitated students. Meanwhile, a major concern for the students was that the initial notification regarding the cancellation of the exam was conveyed only via plain sheets of paper or through verbal communication, while no detailed notification was immediately uploaded to the official SGPGI website. This left the students worried that they might be the target of deliberate confusion.
