JEE Advanced 2026 Data Leak: While the controversy surrounding the recent NEET paper leak case in the country had not yet subsided, reports have now surfaced regarding the leakage of students’ personal data from the portal following the announcement of the JEE Advanced 2026 results. IIT Roorkee has acknowledged the data leak issue on its portal, specifically concerning candidates’ records and admit card documents. According to IIT Roorkee, the problem stemmed from a cloud storage configuration error, and measures are currently being taken to rectify it.

How Did the Personal Data Leak Come to Light?

The issue came to light when a user posted on the social media platform ‘X’ (formerly Twitter), stating that a public cloud storage instance linked to the JEE Advanced 2026 result system had been configured in such a way that it allowed access without any verification. According to the post, the compromised storage contained approximately 179,600 result records and about 187,300 admit card PDFs. Furthermore, cybersecurity researchers have claimed that the leaked data included candidates’ names, dates of birth, and mobile numbers. Screenshots shared in the post displayed data records related to admit cards and results. One image displayed multiple JEE Advanced 2026 documents containing candidates’ personal information, while another image showed result data, including subject-wise scores, ranks, and personal details.

What Did IIT Roorkee Say on the Matter?

Addressing the issue in a post, IIT Roorkee thanked the researchers for bringing the problem to their attention and confirmed that the incident was indeed related to a cloud storage device. The institute stated that the issue is being rectified on a priority basis. IIT Roorkee further clarified that the data on the system was read-only; therefore, there was no possibility of any alterations being made to it. We appreciate your responsible and ethical conduct.

Results Released Earlier This Week

IIT Roorkee had announced the results for JEE Advanced 2026 earlier this week. This examination serves as the gateway for admission into undergraduate programs at the IITs. Meanwhile, IIT Roorkee has not yet issued a separate statement regarding the duration for which the data remained compromised, nor has it clarified whether the affected candidates will be notified.

Rising Anxiety Among Students and Parents

This year, the country has witnessed several instances of paper leaks in national-level examinations—including the NEET UG—raising serious concerns. Against this backdrop, the emergence of this data leak incident involving JEE Advanced results has further heightened the anxiety among students and parents. It is worth noting that prior to this, instances of technical glitches were also reported during the CUET UG, NEET UG, and Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examinations.
