Over 600 seats added across IITs nationwide; 18,826 seats now available for admission...
Millions of students in our country aspire to gain admission to IITs and work hard to achieve this goal. Securing a seat is challenging due to the limited number of available spots. However, the number of seats is gradually increasing to allow more students to pursue their education at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).
**600 New Seats Added**
Over 600 new seats have been added across the IITs this time. The total number of seats has risen from 18,160 last year to 18,826. IIT Jodhpur has seen the highest increase, adding 140 seats, followed by IIT Mandi, which has added 120 seats.
**New Courses Introduced Alongside Seat Increases**
In addition to the increased seat capacity, several new courses have been introduced at these institutes. Reports indicate that 18 new programs have been launched. IIT Kanpur has introduced a program in Intelligent Systems, IIT Mandi in Quantum Science and Engineering, and IIT Indore in Biomedical Engineering and Data Science. IIT Mandi is also incorporating data analytics into Chemical and Agricultural Engineering—signaling that future engineers will need to be proficient in working with algorithms and data alongside machinery and materials. Programs such as Mathematics and Physics at IIT Dharwad, Environmental Economics and Sustainable Engineering at IIT Indore, Materials Engineering at IIT Palakkad, and Biomedical Engineering at IIT Kharagpur have been launched with a focus on addressing real-world challenges.
