The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has launched a new M.Tech program in Robotics and Artificial Intelligence, designed for both fresh graduates and working professionals. The application process for the first batch of this course has already commenced, with the deadline for applications set for July 15. According to the institute, the course will be conducted in a hybrid mode, combining online classes with on-campus laboratory sessions and final examinations held at IIT Guwahati.

The minimum duration of this course is two years, which can be extended up to five years. Notably, the program has been designed with the convenience of working professionals in mind, incorporating recorded lectures and a flexible academic schedule. A key feature of this course is its "Multiple Entry and Multiple Exit" system. Students with recognized qualifications may exit the course at any stage; specifically, upon completing the initial coursework, students are eligible to receive a Post-Graduate Certificate.

Furthermore, the completion of core and elective courses leads to the award of a Post-Graduate Diploma. Progressing further through project work qualifies students for a Master of Science (Engineering) degree, culminating ultimately in the award of a full M.Tech degree. According to the institute, students who exit the course at any stage may rejoin the program to resume their studies after a gap of one year.

**Eligibility for Admission**
Candidates applying for this course must hold a four-year or five-year Bachelor's degree—or an equivalent qualification—in disciplines such as Electrical, Electronics, Computer Science, Mechanical, Civil, Production, Information Technology, or Design. Candidates holding a Master's degree in relevant disciplines are also eligible to apply.

A minimum aggregate score of 60% is mandatory, and candidates must have studied Mathematics up to at least the 12th-grade level.

**How to Secure Admission?**
IIT Guwahati has clarified that a GATE score is not a prerequisite for admission to this course; instead, candidates will be selected based on a written examination and/or an interview conducted by IIT Guwahati.

When will classes begin?
This course covers subjects such as Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Computer Vision, Robot Kinematics, Dynamics, and Control Systems. The institute stated that this course is designed to prepare candidates for roles such as Robotics Engineers, AI/ML Engineers, Automation Engineers, Data Scientists, and Intelligent Systems Researchers across various sectors, including manufacturing, healthcare, defense, and infrastructure. Classes for this course are scheduled to commence on August 10, 2026; furthermore, throughout the duration of the program, students will have the opportunity to visit the IIT Guwahati campus for lab work, project guidance, and interactions with the faculty.
