Opportunity for young innovators: Education Minister launches 'Seva First Innovation Challenge' portal..

Union Education Minister Pralhad Joshi has launched the registration portal for the SEVA Innovation Challenge 2026, aimed at fostering innovation and problem-solving capabilities among the youth. The initiative seeks to provide students and young innovators with the opportunity to identify community-level problems in their surroundings and devise practical solutions. Students from schools, ITIs, polytechnics, colleges, and universities are eligible to participate. The registration process begins on September 25 and runs until October 24, 2026. The national finals of the competition will be held in New Delhi in December.

**A Joint Initiative by the Ministry of Education, AICTE, and UGC**
The 'Seva Pratham Innovation Challenge' (SFIC) is being organized jointly by the Ministry of Education, the All India Council for Technical Education (AICTE), and the University Grants Commission (UGC). IISc Bengaluru has been designated as the nodal institution for this initiative. The competition is open to students from five states and three Union Territories.

**Focus on Five Key Themes**
Under the challenge, participants will work on solutions for real-world problems concerning society and the community. Five key themes have been identified for the competition:

Clean and Sustainable India
Prosperous Farmers, Prosperous India
Healthy and Inclusive India
Educated and Skilled India
Safe and Secure India

**Emphasis on Moving from Prototype to Real-World Solution**
During the portal launch, the Education Minister interacted with students, young innovators, teachers, startups, and industry representatives. He stated that by embracing a spirit of innovation, practical solutions for real-life problems can be developed. The competition focuses on ideas that can be further developed and implemented, rather than merely being presented.

**National Finals in December**
This initiative also builds upon ongoing efforts to strengthen the innovation ecosystem across the country. These include initiatives such as over 10,000 Atal Tinkering Labs, more than 17,300 Institutional Innovation Councils, and the Smart India Hackathon. The Education Minister urged startups and the industry to provide guidance to young participants and assist in transforming their ideas from prototypes into real-world solutions. The national finals of the competition will be held in New Delhi in December 2026.
