Opportunity for Teachers of Classes 6–8: NCERT Launches Special Course

NCERT has launched a special online diploma course for teachers. This program offers teachers the opportunity to strengthen their understanding of science subjects and learn effective teaching techniques.

NCERT has introduced a special online diploma course for teachers instructing science in classes 6 through 8. Titled “Diploma Course in Teaching of Science at Middle Stage,” this program enables teachers to deepen their grasp of science topics while acquiring better pedagogical skills. The course is intended for the 2026–27 batch and will be conducted entirely online. Registration begins on October 12, with the application deadline set for November 12, 2026. The course commences on November 16 and runs until August 31, 2027.

The primary focus of this NCERT program is on teachers who teach science to classes 6–8. Participation is open to both in-service and pre-service teachers. Additionally, candidates holding a B.Sc. degree, those with a diploma or degree in education, and pre-service teachers currently pursuing such qualifications are eligible to enroll. Individuals directly associated with science education may also seek admission. However, NCERT has clarified that this is an academic and professional development course; it should not be equated with other qualifications required for teacher recruitment, nor can it be used to claim exemptions related to appointment.

40 Modules to be Completed in 40 Weeks

This online diploma course spans a total of 40 weeks. It comprises 40 distinct modules, with a new module released every Monday. Each module is designed to be completed within approximately one week. The course covers various essential topics in science. The topics covered include physical and chemical changes, acids, bases and salts, metals and non-metals, motion and force, fluid pressure, energy, heat, and temperature.

6 to 8 hours of study per week

NCERT has designed this course in such a way that teachers can pursue it alongside their jobs or other responsibilities. Participants will need to dedicate approximately 6 to 8 hours of study time each week. The course utilizes multimedia-based interactive content, which teachers can also use in their classrooms for lesson planning and explaining complex scientific concepts. An objective-type test will be conducted at the end of each module. These tests will remain available for 15 days, allowing participants to complete them at their convenience. Only candidates who complete all 40 modules and their respective tests will be eligible to appear for the final examination. The final examination will be a timed test, the date for which will be announced separately.

Course Fee

A one-time enrollment fee of ₹2,000 is required for this online diploma course. No other fees have been prescribed. Payment must be made online. Following the fee payment, NCERTX will typically send enrollment-related details to the registered email ID within one week. Candidates are advised to use the same email ID for both the payment and subsequent stages of the process.
