The Directorate of Education has launched the online admission process for vacant EWS and Freeship seats in classes above Grade 2 for the 2026-27 academic session.

Interested candidates can apply until September 20, 2026. The online application process began on September 8. Following the application phase, admissions for the vacant seats will be conducted via a computerized draw of lots. According to the Directorate of Education's (DoE) schedule, the draw is likely to be held on September 24.

Which schools offer admission?

This process applies to vacant EWS/Freeship seats in classes 2 and above in private, unaided, recognized schools operating on land allotted by the government or the Delhi Development Authority (DDA). Minority institutions are excluded from this process. Seat allocation will be determined through a computerized draw based on the schools selected by parents and their residential addresses. The DoE has emphasized the necessity of providing accurate address details; entering an incorrect locality or address to secure admission in a preferred school may lead to action under the rules.

Who is eligible to apply for EWS admission?

For the EWS category, the applicant family's annual income from all sources must be less than ₹5 lakh. A valid income certificate issued by the Revenue Department of the Delhi Government is mandatory for this purpose. Additionally, children from families holding BPL (Below Poverty Line) or AAY (Antyodaya Anna Yojana) ration cards, or food security cards, are also eligible to apply. Applicants must be residents of Delhi to participate in this admission process.

Age Criteria Based on Class

The Directorate of Education (DoE) has also prescribed age limits for admission to classes 2 through 9. As of March 31, 2026, a child applying for Class 2 must be at least 6 years old but under 7 years of age. Similarly, a child seeking admission to Class 3 must be at least 7 years old but under 8 years of age, while a child seeking admission to Class 4 must be at least 8 years old but under 9 years of age. The age limit increases by one year for each subsequent class.

Only One Application Per Child

Parents need to exercise particular care while applying. Only a single registration and application can be submitted for a child; a mobile number will be used for the application process. The registration is liable to be cancelled if multiple applications are submitted for the same child or if duplicate applications are received from the same family. While filling out the online form, it is essential to have documents ready, such as a birth certificate, proof of address, income certificate (for EWS), caste certificate (if applicable), disability certificate (for the CWSN category), and a recent passport-sized photograph.
