There is good news for students preparing for admission to classes 9 and 11 in Navodaya Vidyalayas. The Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS) has extended the application deadline for the Lateral Entry Admission Test (LEST 2027) for the 2027-28 academic session. Interested students can now register online until October 22, 2026. Previously, the deadline was October 15. This is the second time the Samiti has extended the application deadline. An opportunity to correct any errors in the application form will also be provided. The selection test for admission to classes 9 and 11 will be held on April 10, 2027.

Apply by October 22
The application process for admission to vacant seats in classes 9 and 11 at Navodaya Vidyalayas is currently underway. Applications can be submitted via the official website. During this period, candidates will be able to update information regarding their category, gender, region, and disability status.

Eligibility for Class 9
Students applying for class 9 must be enrolled in class 8 at a government or recognized school in the relevant district during the 2026-27 academic session. The student’s place of residence and the district where their school is located must be the same. The candidate’s date of birth must fall between May 1, 2012, and July 31, 2014. Students who have already passed class 8 are not eligible to apply. Furthermore, candidates who have previously appeared for the selection test are not permitted to take it again.

Admission Criteria for Class 11
To apply for Class 11, a student must be enrolled in Class 10 during the 2026-27 academic session at a government or recognized school. The candidate's date of birth must fall between June 1, 2010, and July 31, 2012. Applications can be submitted for a Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya located in the same district where the student is currently studying in Class 10 and of which they are a resident. Candidates may select up to two streams, with the option to choose three schools for each stream.

Entrance Exam on April 10
The selection test for Classes 9 and 11 will be held on April 10, 2027. Both exams will have a duration of two and a half hours and will consist of multiple-choice questions. The Class 9 exam will include 35 questions each from Mathematics and General Science, and 15 questions each from Hindi and English. The Class 11 exam will feature 20 questions each from Mental Ability, English, Science, Social Science, and Mathematics. Both exams carry a total of 100 marks for 100 questions. There will be no negative marking.
