Odisha Govt: The Higher Education Department of the Odisha Government has launched a new program for girls studying in colleges and universities, called "Shaktishree". The scheme will be implemented in 16 state universities and 730 government and aided institutions.
It aims to teach self-defense to girls and make them physically, mentally, legally, and online (digitally) safe. Along with this, the initiative also focuses on making college campuses safe.
The main parts of the 'Shaktishree' scheme are as follows:
Shaktishree Empowerment Cell (Group): A permanent group will be formed in every college or university, which will be run by girl students and women teachers together.
Shaktishree Saathi: In every institution, one girl student will be selected as "Shaktishree Saathi" who will lead this group.
Shaktishree Sanjojika: A female teacher will be made "Shaktishree Sanjojika," who will conduct and monitor this program.
Shakti Aapa: The District Collector will select five respected women professionals who will be called "Shakti Aapa". These women will guide the girl students and visit the college every three months.
Shaktishree Mobile Application: A one-stop mobile application for all girl students where they can safely register their complaints, get help, and much more.
Code of Conduct for teaching and non-teaching staff in higher education institutions.
SAFE Campaign: Focuses on awareness related to gender sensitization, anti-harassment, etc.
Annual Campus Safety Report: To be submitted by all higher education institutions.
CCTV Surveillance: Round-the-clock monitoring in all higher education institutions to ensure safety.
Online Courses: Online courses will be provided on the POSH Act, 2013, and UGC Regulations, 2015.
Shaktishree Saathi: This is a one-day annual workshop where all Shaktishree Saathi and Sanjojikas will train together and share their experiences to improve the scheme.
