Now, 18-year-olds can also become government teachers; DSSSB has changed the recruitment rule..
There is welcome news for young aspirants preparing to become government teachers in Delhi. The Delhi Subordinate Services Selection Board (DSSSB) has reduced the minimum age limit for the recruitment of Primary Special Education Teachers from 21 years to 18 years. This decision will benefit thousands of candidates who were previously unable to apply solely due to the age restriction. The new rule applies to recruitment under post code 44/26. However, no changes have been made to other recruitment conditions, and candidates must still meet the existing eligibility criteria.
**Decision taken at the request of the Directorate of Education**
In a notification, the DSSSB stated that this change was made following a request from the Delhi Government's Directorate of Education. The Education Department had recommended lowering the age limit in a letter dated June 25, 2026, a proposal the Board accepted.
**No changes to other rules**
The Board clarified that all other rules and eligibility conditions regarding the recruitment process remain unchanged; only the minimum age limit has been revised. The new age limit has also been updated on the OARS portal.
**Which candidates will benefit?**
Young people who have recently turned 18 will benefit the most from this decision. Previously, they had to wait until they were 21 to apply, but now they can apply directly, provided they meet all other necessary qualifications.
**Recruitment for 450 posts**
A total of 450 posts for Primary Special Education Teachers will be filled through this recruitment drive. Candidates must have passed Class 12. Additionally, a D.Ed. in Special Education or an equivalent qualification recognized by the RCI (Rehabilitation Council of India) is mandatory. Candidates must also possess a CTET (Primary Level) pass certificate and a valid RCI registration. Detailed information regarding reserved posts is available in the official recruitment advertisement.
**What should candidates do?**
Candidates who were previously unable to apply due to the age limit can now apply via the DSSSB's OARS portal in accordance with the revised eligibility criteria. Read the official notice carefully before applying, and be sure to check all the necessary documents and eligibility criteria.
