In a landmark decision, Delhi University (DU) will now issue degrees to students immediately upon the completion of their studies. The long, years-long wait for final certificates has come to an end, as the university has overhauled its existing system.

This comes as a major relief for the lakhs of students studying at Delhi University. They will no longer have to endure years of waiting to receive their degree certificates after completing their courses. The university administration is implementing a new system designed to ensure that students receive their degrees quickly and easily as soon as their studies conclude. This significant move will be particularly beneficial for students planning to go abroad for further education or employment, as well as for those who require their degrees urgently.

Previously, students often had to make repeated visits to the university—sometimes for months or even years—to obtain their final degrees after completing their courses, frequently having to rely on provisional certificates in the interim. DU is now set to streamline and accelerate this entire process. Under the new regulations and system, students will receive their original degrees shortly after the declaration of their final results and the conclusion of the convocation ceremony. The university administration believes that by leveraging technology and improving coordination, this process can be completed in a timely manner.

Digital Platforms to Facilitate the Process

To expedite this, Delhi University is utilizing digital systems and a dedicated student portal. Students will be able to submit applications easily through this portal. Furthermore, efforts are underway to ensure that degrees are made available securely and promptly via platforms such as the National Academic Depository (NAD) and DigiLocker. This will also spare students the hassle of undergoing lengthy verification processes.

A Major Relief for Lakhs of Students

This decision by DU is expected to provide significant relief to students across various streams, including those in regular colleges, the School of Open Learning (SOL), and the Non-Collegiate Women’s Education Board (NCWEB). It is often observed that after their final year, students receive job offer letters or secure admission to prestigious institutions, but they frequently face significant difficulties due to the absence of their original degrees. This new initiative by Delhi University (DU) will completely eliminate such stress for students.

Multiple options under the NEP

Under the National Education Policy (NEP), Delhi University now offers students various options even while they are pursuing their studies. If a student leaves their course after one year for any reason, they are awarded a certificate. Completing two years leads to a diploma, while the completion of three or four years of study results in a full degree. By further strengthening this entire system, the university is ensuring that students receive the fruits of their hard work—their degrees—without any delay.
