No ban on hijab or turban; advice to wear half-sleeved clothes and slippers; NTA issues dress code for NEET-UG..
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has issued important guidelines regarding the dress code and security arrangements for the re-examination of NEET-UG, scheduled for Sunday, June 21. The agency has clarified that there are no restrictions on items such as turbans, hijabs, *sindoor* (vermilion), *mangalsutras*, or other religious symbols. However, candidates wearing such items are advised to arrive at the exam center earlier than the scheduled time to accommodate additional security checks.
According to the NTA, all candidates must undergo a mandatory security check before entering the exam center. The agency has advised students to wear light-colored clothing and opt for half-sleeved shirts, T-shirts, or *kurtas*. Candidates are also encouraged to wear slippers or low-heeled sandals.
The NTA stated that while there is no ban on full-sleeved clothing or winter wear, such attire may take longer to inspect. Conversely, items such as high heels, belts with large buckles, heavy jewelry, smartwatches, Bluetooth devices, mobile phones, and other electronic gadgets will not be permitted inside the exam center.
A two-tier security check system has been implemented at the exam centers. In the first stage, candidates' admit cards and government-issued photo identity cards will be verified. This will be followed by photo verification via Aadhaar. If necessary, an online photo match using Aadhaar may also be conducted during the examination.
To further strengthen security, the NTA has arranged for live monitoring via CCTV cameras at all centers. This monitoring will be overseen by the district administration and police, in addition to the NTA headquarters. Arrangements for clean drinking water have been made at all exam centers for the convenience of candidates; students are also permitted to bring water in transparent bottles.
In a statement, the NTA said that the responsibility for the secure transport of confidential exam materials has been entrusted to the district administration, police forces, and 'escort' teams. According to the statement, the re-examination will be conducted in 'pen-and-paper' mode from 2:00 PM to 5:15 PM. More than 22.79 lakh candidates have registered for this examination across 551 cities in the country and 14 cities abroad. The NTA stated that candidates with disabilities who are eligible for compensatory time will have until 6:20 PM.
