NMMSS Scholarship 2026-27: The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme aims to provide financial assistance to meritorious students from economically weaker families to help them continue their education.

NMMSS Scholarship 2026-27: The Department of School Education and Literacy under the Ministry of Education has commenced registration for the National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme (NMMSS) for the 2026-27 academic session. Under this scheme, eligible students studying in Class 9 can apply for the scholarship for the first time. Meanwhile, students studying in Classes 10 to 12 can apply for the renewal of their existing scholarships. The deadline for applications is August 31, 2026, and students must use the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) to apply.

NMMSS Scheme for Economically Weaker Students

The National Means-cum-Merit Scholarship Scheme aims to provide financial support to meritorious students from economically disadvantaged families, enabling them to continue their studies. The scheme specifically encourages students to pursue their education beyond Class 8. A key objective of this Central Government initiative is to reduce the school dropout rate. This scholarship assists students whose education might otherwise be jeopardized by financial constraints, allowing them to continue their further studies.

Who Can Apply for NMMSS?

Students studying in Class 9 at government, government-aided, and local body schools are eligible to apply for the NMMSS. Additionally, students in Classes 10, 11, and 12 can apply for the renewal of their scholarships to ensure continued support. However, to qualify for renewal, students must meet the prescribed criteria associated with the scholarship. Additionally, students can apply for one or more scholarship schemes—in addition to merit-based scholarships like NMMSS—provided they meet the eligibility criteria for the respective schemes.

The deadline for submitting both new and renewal applications for NMMSS 2026-27 is August 31, 2026. Eligible students must complete their applications within this timeframe. The application process is online, and students must visit the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) to apply.
