Official data for 2024-25 from NIT Trichy and NIT Rourkela—two of the country’s top technical institutes—has been released. The figures reveal that students secured excellent opportunities not only in IT but also in sectors such as manufacturing, BFSI, and consulting. Let’s take a look at the detailed placement data for both NITs.

Overall UG Placement at NIT Trichy: 86.2%

At the National Institute of Technology, Tiruchirappalli, the overall undergraduate (UG) placement rate stood at 86.2% during the 2024-25 academic year; this means approximately 86 out of every 100 students secured a job. According to the placement cell, over 220 companies participate in the recruitment process here annually.

Which branch led the way?

The Computer Science and Engineering (CSE) branch took the lead at NIT Trichy, achieving a placement rate of 97.3%—the highest among the major branches. This was followed by Electrical and Electronics Engineering (EEE) at 95.7%, Instrumentation and Control Engineering (ICE) at 90.3%, Electronics and Communication Engineering (ECE) at 90.0%, and Mechanical Engineering at 88.3%. The Civil Engineering branch recorded the lowest placement rate at 71.1%.

1,290 Job Offers at NIT Rourkela

A total of 1,290 job offers were recorded across the institute at NIT Rourkela during the 2024-25 academic year. B.Tech students received a total of 875 offers, distributed among 783 students. Data has been released based on the number of offers rather than the placement percentage.

Branch-wise record for Rourkela

In terms of branches, CSE received the highest number of offers at 144. ECE and Mechanical received 134 offers each, while Electrical secured 116. Civil received 62 offers, Metallurgical & Materials 59, and Chemical 54. Additionally, 47 offers were recorded for Ceramic, 37 for Mining, 33 for Biotechnology, 30 for Industrial Design, and 25 for Food Process Engineering.

Sectors with the highest number of offers

The Software/IT sector led the way at Rourkela with 271 offers. This was followed by Manufacturing (138 offers), Education (129), and BFSI (121). Other sectors included Power & Heavy (109 offers), Analytics & Consulting (95), Automobile (87), and Oil & Gas (86).
