NIOS to launch a 6-month bridge course for B.Ed teachers; 33,640 teachers from UP have registered..

An important update has emerged for B.Ed. qualified assistant teachers working in primary schools. Following a Supreme Court directive, the National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is set to launch a special six-month bridge course for these teachers. This training has been made mandatory to fulfill the essential qualification requirements for teaching at the primary level. According to NIOS, 66,154 B.Ed. teachers from across the country have registered for this course, with the highest number of registrations coming from Uttar Pradesh. The course will be conducted online and through distance learning modes, and the schedule is expected to be released soon.

**Over 66,000 Teachers Registered**
A total of 66,154 teachers nationwide have registered for this special training program conducted by NIOS. Uttar Pradesh leads the list with 33,640 registrations. It is followed by Madhya Pradesh (10,650 teachers), Bihar (7,569), and West Bengal (6,627). Additionally, 1,376 teachers from Assam and 1,208 from Chhattisgarh have applied.

**Which Teachers Must Take the Course?**
This bridge course is mandatory for B.Ed.-qualified assistant teachers appointed in primary schools between June 28, 2018, and August 11, 2023. In accordance with the Supreme Court's directive, the concerned teachers are required to complete the prescribed training.

The course duration is six months, and it must be successfully completed within one year of the official start date. Failure to complete the course within the stipulated timeframe could result in the teacher's appointment being declared invalid.

**Full Schedule to be Released Soon**
Approval for this training had been received from state governments about four months ago. However, some teachers had filed petitions in the Supreme Court seeking exemption from the bridge course. With the resolution of these petitions, the path is now clear for the training to commence. According to Alok Kumar Gupta, Deputy Director of the Capacity Building Cell at the NIOS headquarters in Noida, preparations for conducting courses via online and distance learning modes have been completed. The institute will soon release the training schedule.
