NIOS B.Ed. Bridge Course 2026: There is important news for teachers working as assistant teachers in primary schools who hold a B.Ed. degree. The National Institute of Open Schooling (NIOS) is set to launch a special 6-month bridge course for such teachers. NIOS is initiating this course in compliance with Supreme Court directives. The course is recognized by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), and all necessary preparations have been completed.

Alok Kumar Gupta, Deputy Director of the Capacity Building Cell at NIOS Headquarters (Noida), stated that all preparations to conduct the bridge course via online and distance learning modes are complete, and a detailed schedule will be released soon.

Over 66,000 Applications Received for the Bridge Course

A total of 66,154 B.Ed.-qualified teachers from across the country have registered to participate in this mandatory training program designed by NIOS. According to a report published in *Live Hindustan*, teachers from Uttar Pradesh account for the highest number of applicants.

For Which Teachers Is This Course Mandatory?

The Supreme Court issued a clear directive stating that it is mandatory for B.Ed.-qualified assistant teachers appointed in primary schools between June 28, 2018, and August 11, 2023, to complete this bridge course.

Course Must Be Completed Within One Year

A key condition of this course is that it must be completed in a single attempt within a period of one year from the official start date. If a teacher fails to pass the course within the stipulated timeframe, their appointment will be declared invalid. Process Commencing After Dismissal of Petitions

Approvals for teacher training had already been received from various state governments four months ago. However, some teachers had filed petitions in the Supreme Court seeking exemption from the bridge course. Now that the Court has disposed of all those petitions, the path ahead is completely clear.
