There is important news for PhD researchers in Bihar. Universities must now upload a researcher's thesis to the Shodhganga portal before awarding the PhD degree; no researcher will be granted the degree without this step. Clear instructions regarding this have been issued by the authorities to the Vice-Chancellors of all state universities. Additionally, the Secretariat administration has sought reports from the universities on the theses uploaded to the portal. According to the directive, it is mandatory to upload the research thesis to the portal within one week of the completion of the PhD viva-voce (oral examination).

The University Grants Commission (UGC) established the rule requiring theses to be uploaded to the Shodhganga portal to curb copying and plagiarism in research work. However, the Governor and Chancellor's Secretariat has expressed dissatisfaction over the lack of full compliance with this rule by universities in Bihar. Universities must now complete this process within the stipulated timeframe. According to information received from the authorities, state universities have so far uploaded the theses of 20,152 PhD holders to the portal, while the task of uploading the theses of approximately 50,000 more PhD holders remains pending.

**Will Help Curb Plagiarism**
Under UGC regulations, universities are required to check research theses for plagiarism before uploading them to Shodhganga. This portal was developed under the Information and Library Network (INFLIBNET) initiative. Its objective is to make research work from across the country available on a single platform. This will allow students and researchers from other universities to access the theses and will help prevent the theft of research material.

**Patliputra University Has Already Issued Instructions**
Patliputra University had already implemented this rule for researchers in May. The university clarified that failure to complete the prescribed procedure would result in the non-issuance of the PhD award notification, and the researcher would not receive the degree.

Report to be submitted along with the thesis
Universities have also prescribed a specific format for thesis submission. This will include a title page, declaration, certificate, acknowledgments, table of contents, abstract, five chapters, list of references, questionnaire, and other necessary documents. Additionally, the conclusion, summary, information regarding future research, and a plagiarism report must also be submitted. It is mandatory to submit all these documents in the prescribed format.
