New Himachal Board Rule: Registration Mandatory in Classes 9 and 11

Students in government and private schools affiliated with the Himachal Board will now be registered in classes 9 and 11 instead of classes 10 and 12. The Board has implemented this change to minimize technical difficulties.

The Himachal Pradesh Board of School Education (HPBOSE) has revised the rules regarding student registration. Students from affiliated government and private schools will now be registered in classes 9 and 11 rather than classes 10 and 12. The Board introduced this change to reduce technical and administrative issues encountered during examinations. Under the new rules, the registration done in class 9 will remain valid until the student passes the class 10 matriculation examination, and the registration done in class 11 will remain valid until the student passes the class 12 senior secondary examination.

Registration to Take Place in Classes 9 and 11

HPBOSE Chairman Dr. Rajesh Sharma announced an amendment to Rule 18.1, Chapter 18 of the Examination Act, 1994. This system will apply to students studying in all schools and institutions affiliated with the Board. Students studying in class 9 will now be registered with the Board, and class 11 students will also be registered at that stage. According to the new rules, the registration completed in class 9 will remain effective until the student passes the class 10 matriculation exam. Similarly, the registration done in class 11 will remain valid until the student passes the class 12 senior secondary exam.

Rules for Students Transferring from Other Boards

If a student seeks admission directly into class 10 or 12 after studying under a different board, they must register with HPBOSE as a new candidate. Such students will be required to register separately in accordance with the Board’s prescribed procedure.

Registration Fee Set at ₹200

HPBOSE has fixed the registration fee at ₹200 per student. Schools affiliated with the board must complete student registration by October 15, 2026, without incurring a late fee. Registration will remain possible after this date, but a late fee of ₹500 will apply. The deadline for registration with the late fee is set for November 15, 2026. No applications will be accepted after this period without the prior approval of the Board Chairman.

Instructions for School Heads

The board has instructed principals and heads of affiliated schools to complete the registration of eligible students within the stipulated timeframe and in accordance with the prescribed rules. The registration schedule will be released on the board’s official website. Schools must use the HPBOSE online portal to complete the registration process. Details of students in the respective classes will be entered via the school login; this will include the students’ personal, educational, and subject-related information.

According to the Himachal Board, the registration system has been modified to minimize technical and administrative issues that arise during the Class 10 and 12 board examinations. Student records will now be registered with the board in advance, which will help streamline the process for future board examinations.
