Preparations are underway to increase the number of MBBS seats at Motilal Nehru Medical College in Prayagraj. The plan is to raise the intake from 200 to 250 seats. To facilitate this, the government has requested information from the college administration regarding available resources, faculty, library facilities, hostels, mess services, and other amenities. An increase in seats would benefit students pursuing medical education. Simultaneously, in light of the rising number of patients at SRN Hospital, work is also progressing rapidly on plans to expand the hospital.

MBBS seats to increase to 250
SRN Hospital, which is affiliated with Motilal Nehru Medical College in Prayagraj, is undergoing expansion. In view of this, preparations are being made to add 50 more MBBS seats at the medical college. The government has sought the necessary details for this purpose, and the college administration is currently compiling information on the available resources and facilities.

Currently, the college offers 200 MBBS seats. Once the proposal is approved, this number could rise to 250, providing more admission opportunities for students aspiring to pursue medical studies.

Medical college established in 1961
Motilal Nehru Medical College was established in 1961 with 50 MBBS seats. The number of seats was subsequently increased to 100 in 1967, followed by an increase to 150 in 2013 and 200 in 2019. Now, after about seven years, preparations are being made to increase the seat count once again. The annual fee for the MBBS program at the college is approximately 35,000 to 38,000 rupees. Due to these low fees, the college is considered an affordable option for students pursuing medical education.

Rising patient numbers at SRN Hospital
Every year, approximately 700,000 patients visit the OPD at SRN Hospital, while between 65,000 and 68,000 patients are admitted annually. Over the past four years, the number of patients visiting the OPD has been increasing by approximately 80,000 each year.

Expansion of Hospital Facilities
In light of the rising number of patients, preparations are underway to establish a 100-bed critical care center and a 200-bed children’s hospital. Additionally, plans include setting up a Level-1 trauma center, a multi-story parking facility, and a centralized hub for all diagnostic services. Land acquisition for these projects is complete, and the demolition of old residential quarters is currently in full swing. In the future, the hospital will be expanded up to Mahatma Gandhi Marg.
