NEET UG: The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) has declared the results of the 5th round of NEET UG counselling, also known as the 'Stray Vacancy Round'. This round was the final opportunity for students hoping to secure admission to government and private seats in courses like BDS (Bachelor of Dental Surgery) and BSc Nursing. This year's counselling process has been quite lengthy, and the results of the 5th round have clarified the category-wise cut-off trends.

The NEET UG closing ranks for various categories have seen a decline compared to the previous rounds, resulting in seats being allocated even to candidates with lower scores. The Stray Vacancy Round is primarily conducted to fill the vacant seats that remained after the previous four rounds. Separate cut-off ranks have been released for General, OBC, EWS, SC, and ST category candidates for the seats available under the All India Quota.

NEET UG Round 5: BDS and BSc Nursing Cut-off Analysis
Significance of the Stray Vacancy Round: The fifth round of NEET UG counselling is conducted to fill the seats that remain vacant in the central pool or All India Quota. Often, students opt for BDS or Nursing if they don't get an MBBS seat, which causes the cut-offs to drop significantly by the final round. This time too, the NEET UG counselling process has provided relief to students who were very close to the cut-off limit.

BDS Category-wise Cut-off Trends: The demand for BDS is always higher compared to BSc Nursing. In Round 5, the closing rank for the General category remained quite high, while students from reserved categories (SC/ST/OBC) received seats even at ranks in the lakhs. According to the data, the final seats have been allocated in many government dental colleges, and now there are very few vacancies left.

BSc Nursing Situation: In the last few years, the attraction towards BSc Nursing has increased among students. The MCC has clarified that due to the mandatory NEET score for admission to nursing colleges, stability has been observed in the cut-offs. After filling the nursing seats in the fifth round, the likelihood of further rounds through the MCC is low.

Seat Allotment and Reporting Process - Candidates who have been allotted seats in the fifth round must report to the respective colleges within the stipulated time. Candidates must be present with their original documents, NEET scorecard, and allotment letter. If a student fails to join the allotted seat, their security deposit may be forfeited.

Future of Vacant Seats - If any seats remain vacant even after the NEET UG counselling stray round, they may be returned to the deemed universities or concerned institutions. However, the main objective of the MCC in releasing the fifth round results was to fill all government seats. This will prevent further delays in the academic session.
